We have worked with local people to locate important territories for the conservation of the Military Macaw.
Thus, studies have also been carried out in order to define productive projects and programs in natural areas, whose main purpose is defined as conservation, in accordance with current territorial regulations. |
Studies and work have been carried out for the design and construction of interpretive trails that would be the basis of profitable ecotourism activities in the communities of the region, that economically support the ejidatarios that protect the feeding and reproduction areas of the Military Macaw.
As part of the necessary training to make the ecotourism projects a reality in the Boca de Tomatlán and Bioto communities, a first aid course was held at the Boca de Tomatlán communal house, taught by Puerto Vallarta Civil Protection personnel.
We have joined in the fight for the defense of the mountain of the municipality of Vallarta, in opposition to a tourist project that aims to develop a tourist complex with more than 500 rooms on a 300-hectare plot of jungle and oak forests, home to a population of Military Macaw and many other endemic species of the region.
|
We have supported ejidatarios in problems with wildlife, by registering and following up with the competent authorities, jaguar attacks on livestock. The Jaguar is an endangered species that shares the territory with the Military Macaw, the protection of these species is closely linked through the management of the territories by man and the use of resources by animals.
Habitat improvement work has been carried out. With the participation of the director of the Telesecundaria Leona Vicario de Boca de Tomatlán and his students, there is a school nursery and reforestation activities have been carried out in the community and within the school grounds in order to build a demonstration plot in ecotourism projects.
In Boca de Tomatlán and Bioto, a workshop on ecotourism and hiking was given. As a result, the participants proposed sustainable management projects for their territory.
